Weeknote 43, 2026

This week was pretty productive for me, especially compared to some of the previous weeks I’ve recently had. I did a bunch of work on my homelab setup & personal Nix setup, getting my custom fonts working properly in Zed (so I can fully switch over to it, rather than using VSCodium on my desktop and Zed on my Macbook), making a personal link dashboard for my internal services so that I and friends can easily go to the different services without having to remember them. It also has some useful widgets for us.

I released solai.style this week, a fork of the VSCode theme I’ve been using since time immemorial. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a while now, and a friend released their own palettes, madoromi, which finally inspired me to get this done. The core palette was pretty easy to do, basically just taking what Dolch had already done and then creating a few extra variants, but the site itself took a bunch more time. Getting the look and feel took a few iterations and was fun exploring some of the different directions to go. I’m rather proud of the font choice. Inter was the obvious default but it’s used everywhere; I do enjoy it as a default interface font but I wanted a bit more personality. I managed to find Sora after a bit of searching and I absolutely love the feel it gives the site, fits in perfectly.

For my personal website here, I’ve integrated Emdash CMS to make publishing my posts much easier. Now I no longer have to push to Git and rebuild my website every time I write a new post or need to make a change. I can write and publish from my phone if I wanted, and it automatically publishes announcements to Bluesky via my account :3. Pretty happy with Emdash after doing a few small projects with it (including the personal links homepage) so it should go pretty well for this!

I also got myself an XTEINK X4 Pro eReader after seeing a bunch of people rock them on Bluesky some time ago. I’m hoping this help me get back into reading properly, being a dedicated device so less distractions than reading on my phone, and it being so small and portable should entice me to bring it along basically everywhere. The first thing I did with it was install the CrossPoint Reader firmware as I heard good things about it and middling things about the default firmware. So far it’s been very nice, got it hooked up to a hosted Calibre server via OPDS and got a few books on it. Thinking eventually I’ll do a personal fork of it to make some fun fancy themes for it.
